“Häuser & Höfe”

bahn_hoefe is as diverse and many-faceted as its suburb. Ottensen´s creative pluralism and liveliness is reflected in the inspiring mix of users on its 30.000 carefully renovated square metres, spread over three separate buildings, which enclose three newly designed courtyards. The opening and revival of this unique location bestows yet another attractive location on the suburb of Ottensen.

Courtyard I (West)

The westward courtyard is the most open and lively one. A public path goes through it, which connects the Altona railway station with the streets “Am Felde/Ehrenbergstraße”. It is from here that one accesses the offices or visits the restaurant, and it is the fastest way to reach the railway station coming from Altona´s western districts.

Courtyard II (Central)

The most distinctive feature of the central courtyard is its roofing. The main entrance to the office is located here. During core time a staffed reception desk creates a friendly atmosphere – not only for visitors! It is the ideal place for a pleasant stopover, as well as for events and exhibitions.

Courtyard III (East)

The Eastern courtyard is the quietest place in the group of buildings. As it is the outdoor area for the University of Applied Sciences it is reserved for its students and teachers.

Inspiring surroundings

The ensemble is located in the heart of Hamburg´s popular suburb Ottensen. It is a lively and creative quarter near the Port of Hamburg, whose diversity of shops and workshops, cafés, bars and restaurants provide wonderful stimuli for the district. The rich mix of this charming quarter acts as a pool of ideas for creative minds.

The parks on the banks of the River Elbe can be reached within only a few minutes walk and offer, in contrast, rest and relaxation. Stretching from the Altona train station to the Altona Townhall, the park-like Platz der Republik already offers relaxing lunch-breaks away from the rush and stress, and can even be combined with a boule-game.

To the city centre in 15 min

bahn_hoefe focusses on modern concepts of mobility. Both long-distance and regional trains start at the Altona train station, as well as different suburban trains and many busses. Hamburg´s public transport network “ÖPNV” is closely woven and functions extremely well. Suburban trains reach the city centre in less than 15 minutes. Thanks to this service tourist attractions such as Blankenese or Wedel on the western fringe of the city are just around the corner.

Car-sharing and bike rental stations facilitate mobility throughout the city.

Stability endures

Great part of bahn_hoefe is made up of what used to be the “Reichsbahndirektion” (head quarters of the state railway) of 1895. This charming brick building with its three courtyards, located in an exposed position, has a great potential to unite manyfold usage under one roof.

Sustainable planning also means preserving the old and using existing potentials. Professional newcomers are looking for affordable working spaces, students would like attractive living spaces close to the city centre, creative minds need inspiring surroundings with good vibes – and bahn_hoefe in Ottensen offers all of this.

The existing architecture does not only captivate due to its generous and quiet courtyards. Moreover, it is its great building substance, its wide staircases and the stylistic elements from the first part of the 20th centurey worthy of preservation which form the unique character of this building complex.
